See Creatures is a design + pattern studio based Brighton in the UK.
Creative director, Dan Walters, founded the studio in 2014. Many of the designs are inspired by nature and the outdoors. It’s all about doing what inspires you and looking to push boundaries and work outside your comfort zone. This is what drives us on to create surface patterns and designs for products in new and exciting ways.
Dan has 15 years industry experience and curates the print collection. He designs patterns and also works closely with some amazing freelance artists to create patterns for kidswear, men’s, women’s, active and swim. Alongside this he paints murals, designs brands, does talks and workshops, makes products and even co-hosts a design podcast.
Sarah runs the studio in Brighton, visits clients internationally and is responsible for new business.
We set out to create new fresh and dynamic pattern designs that are different and thoughtful. The collection is carefully put together each season and added to everyday. Providing an excellent experience when working with us is a big part of what we do. Attention to detail is key, and going that extra yard to create something extra special is essential.
We have worked with some incredible brands and people both in the UK and Worldwide. These include The North Face, Bonobos, John Lewis, Paperchase, Like the Wind Magazine, Amazon, RVCA, Marks & Spencer, GAP Inc, Target, Bluemint, Bison Beer, Osh Kosh, REI, Mothercare, J.Crew, Fathers Magazine & Speck.
The Know Ideas Podcast is a side project Dan works on with fellow creative Anthony Peters. The idea was born from the love of great ideas, interest in process and how other creatives are inspired, plus a huge love of podcasts.
Do you do custom patterns?
Yes we do, just email us to find out our rates, we try to be flexible and work with your budget on most occasions. We can also offer help on entire print collections, colour stories or brand design.
Where can I see your work?
We work with many major brands around the world, however our name is not on many things we do. check out Dan’s mural projects here in Brighton or you can buy a poster from our shop and see it everyday.
Do you do internships?
Unfortunately, not at the moment as our studio is very busy and we don’t have the space currently.
How often do we travel with the collection?
We visit The USA about every 6-8 weeks, Europe and the UK in between. We attend the Premiere Vision Designs show in NY and Paris.
Where do you get your ideas?
We try to use many different avenues instead of just search engines. Old books, gallery shows, films, podcasts, collected printed emphemera, magazines, city visits, shops and personal projects help inspire new things for us.
Where are you based?
We are based in a lovely bright studio in Brighton. We are lucky enough to walk to work everyday and have our gorgeous 10 yr old Great Dane as our studio dog. We absolutely love being a part of the Brighton design scene, it is a fun and vibrant city so if you visit then do drop us a line. We also love being near the sea.
